Looking
Back - 2002 Annual Joint Florida/Alabama Technical Conference
Once again the Coastal Plains Chapter sponsored technical conference
was a great success. On Friday, May 17, 2002 approximately 120 Chapter
members and guests met at the Gulf Power Addison Auditorium to listen
to presentations by area environmental professionals and dignitaries
including our A&WMA President, Mr. Daniel Schmid. A special thank
you to our Benefactor Sponsors - Sanders Engineering & Analytical
Services, Inc., Spectrum Systems Inc., Southern Environmental Services,
and Waste Management; as well as, the Patron Sponsors - Gulf Coast
Environmental & Engineering, Inc./Eagle Environmental and STL.
Our post-conference libations and pupus, provided at Damon’s
Restaurant, were enjoyed by one of the largest contingencies seen
in the past several years. A final thank you to everyone that attended
and to the numerous companies that donated door prizes.
Dueling
Conferences
Thursday, June 20, 2002 our General Members Business Luncheon was
held at the Gulf Power corporate headquarters in Pensacola. Our
Chapter treated members to a free pizza lunch and presentation
by our guest speaker, Dr. Johan Liebens of the Department of Environmental
Studies at the University of West Florida. Dr. Liebens spoke to
us on the results of a recent study examining heavy metals contamination
found in the sediments of stormwater retention ponds, roadside
swales and from street sweepings. Members were treated to a variety
of tasty pizzas while listening to the presentation and receiving
Chapter business news and updates.
