About
AWMA
More
than 14,000 members, worldwide founded in 1907.
A nonprofit, technical and educational organization.
The Association provides a neutral forum where all viewpoints
of an environmental management issue (technical, scientific,
economic, social, political, and public health) receive equal consideration.
The Association's technical scope has three parts: air pollution,
environmental
management, and waste processing and control.
As a result of regional and local issues, members have formed
Sections and
Chapters to offer additional programs and activities in their geographical
areas.
Gulf Power employees have memberships in the Southern Section, Alabama
Chapter, Florida Section and Coastal Plains Chapter.
The Coastal Plains Chapter of the Florida Section was officially
formed in
1994.
The Association conducts hundreds of specialty conferences,
workshops, and
continuing education courses each year. Of great concern is the need for
more
formal educational programs on the College and University levels for technical
and managerial demands pursuant to the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990.
The Association produces "Environmental Resource Guides" for teacher
education.
The Coastal Plains Chapter is establishing an Environmental
Scholarship for
Pensacola Jr. College, Okaloosa- Walton Community College, University
of
West
Florida and Gulf Coast Community College.
Gulf Power is a co-funding
these scholarship
@ $1200/year.
The AWMA has a certification program for environmental
professionals called
"Qualified Environmental Professional"(QEP).
